My dev-profile at MobyGames

Today when searching for my name on google in order to check the ranking of my websites, I found my dev profile at MobyGames, reminding me of my good old times at Neon Studios, where I worked as a game programmer. BTW they really have a nice web-page nowadays.

I really hope that I will get back into game development soon, it was one of the best times I ever had in my life.

My favorite Computer Graphics Researcher

One of my favorite computer graphics researchers is Paul Debevec. Not only because he is a great technician in his field, but mainly because he has worked on some really stunning films demonstrating his techniques. My favorite still is Fiat Lux.

Everybody interested in photorealstics rendering should give him a try!

Euclid's Elements

Posted by Kaya Kupferschmidt • Thursday, November 25. 2004 • Category: General
When surfing through the web, I found the virtual version of Euclid's elements. If Euclid lived today, he probably would have published his work himself on the internet.

From the website: "Euclid's Elements form one of the most beautiful and influential works of science in the history of humankind. Its beauty lies in its logical development of geometry and other branches of mathematics. It has influenced all branches of science but none so much as mathematics and the exact sciences. The Elements have been studied 24 centuries in many languages starting, of course, in the original Greek, then in Arabic, Latin, and many modern languages."

iRATE Radio

Do you like music? I guess so, as most people like music. In the past I have been a happy user of mp3.com, but unfortunately they changed their business about a year ago. Because personally I don't like P2P sharing (even if it is legal), I was searching for other solutions. There is one website called BeSonic which is similar to the old mp3.com, but the music often is in worse quality (speak: below 128kbit).

But then I found another interesting site: iRATE Radio. This really is an interesting concept - you cannot select the songs you would like to download. Instead you get a couple of songs, which you have to rate (therefore the name) and then you will (hopefully) get other music based on your ratings. From the website: "iRATE radio is a collaborative filtering system for music. You rate the tracks it downloads and the server uses your ratings and other people's to guess what you'll like. The tracks are downloaded from websites which allow free and legal downloads of their music."

Unfortunately the GUI fo Windows still is terrible, and the newest versions don't work on my computer. But I already got a big collection of free and legal music due to iRate.

Check it out! irateradio.com.

Its over! Finally I finished my PhD at the ISMI at the math department of the University of Frankfurt. Actually my defense already was at 15 November, but Ralph Neiniger was so kind to put up some pictures, which I mirrored here.

I will still continue to work at the university till end of march 2005.

Blogging

Posted by Kaya Kupferschmidt • Wednesday, November 17. 2004 • Category: General
So this is my first entry in my newly created blog. One might ask: "Why on earth another blog?". The answer is quite simple: Because it is fun.

Of course there are some special subjects I am interested in and you can expect to find them here. This includes development of graphics applications, collecting old workstations and even some real life related entries.

So stay tuned!
